Where to buy Haymes paint in Strathalbyn

Short answer, we stock it. Longer answer, we carry two brands, Haymes and Taubmans, and between them there is a paint for most of what people come in wanting to do, from a bedroom wall to a set of exterior weatherboards.

Mixed and tinted to order

The paint gets tinted in store from the range we stock, which is the bit worth understanding before you come in. You pick a colour from the range we carry, we mix it while you wait. What that means practically is that you're not limited to whatever happens to be sitting on the shelf in a tin already, and you get the exact colour off the card rather than something close to it.

If you have a colour in your head rather than a name, bring the room in with you. Not literally. A photo of the space, an idea of which way the windows face, and the sense of whether you want it warm or cool gets us most of the way there.

What is in the range

Interior and exterior, walls, ceilings, trims, decks and fences. Primers and undercoats, which is the part people skip and then wonder why the finish didn't hold. Enamels for the doors and skirting, and the accessories to go with all of it, brushes, rollers, trays, tape and drop sheets.

Two things worth knowing

Paint is a dangerous good, so the paint itself is in store rather than posted out. The accessories are online, and the tins are here waiting for you.

And the finish matters as much as the colour. Matt hides a wall that isn't perfectly flat, and low sheen is the everyday choice for most rooms. Semi gloss and gloss belong on the surfaces that get wiped and knocked, so that's a two minute conversation at the counter and it'll save you repainting a hallway.

Getting the job right

Prep is most of it. Clean the surface, sand the gloss off the old paint, fill and sand the chips, and get the dust off before you start.
Buy decent brushes and rollers. Cheap tools leave streaks and shed bristles into good paint, and they cost more in touch ups than they save on the day.
Test before you commit. A sample on the actual wall, looked at in the morning and again at night, tells you far more than a colour card held up under shop lights.
