Sugar cane mulch does double duty in a South Australian summer. It locks moisture into the bed so you're not watering every second day, and it breaks down over the season to feed the soil underneath it.
This bale is compressed for easy handling and fluffs out to cover around 8 square metres at a 5cm depth, enough for a decent stretch of garden bed, a veggie patch or a ring of pots. Weed and water the area well before you spread it, keep it a couple of centimetres clear of stems, then water again to settle it in.
Tops up easily through the season as it breaks down.
