Which swing back blades fit my mower?

Match them by the number stamped on the old blade, or by cut width and measurement if that stamp has worn away.
Which swing back blades fit your mower comes down to the OEM part number stamped into the old blade, so if you can still read that number you order the set that lists it and you're done. If the stamp has gone, you match your cut width first and then check the blade measurements against the listing before you order, because a few brands run the same cut width on quite different blades.
They come as a pair with the bolts, which is what you want anyway, because the old bolts have usually been done up and undone a few too many times.
If you're on a Victa rear catcher at 19” (483mm) or 20” (508mm), including the Mustang, Twin and Supreme 500, Rambo, 500 and the 505 self propelled, this is the pair.
Where is the number on a swing back blade?
Take the spark plug lead off and turn the fuel off before you tip the mower over, and tip it with the air filter and carby side up so oil doesn't run into the filter, or run the tank down first so you're not wearing petrol all afternoon. The blades are the two small steel pieces bolted to the bar under the deck, and they swing on that bolt, which is where the name comes from. The number is stamped into the flat of the blade, usually close to the bolt hole, and a wire brush will bring it back up if it's caked in dried grass.
What do I measure if the number has worn off?
Pull one blade off and measure it. You need the length of a single blade tip to tip, not the full swing of the pair, then the width across it, then the hole in the middle where the bolt goes.
Then look at the shape of it, because that matters just as much as the size. A flat blade sits flat and a stepped blade has a bend in it. The flute is the lip turned up along the back edge that lifts the grass into the catcher, and it's either formed, high or low. The bolt hole is either domed or offset, and that has to match too, or the blade won't sit down properly on the bar.
Every listing below spells all of that out, so hold the old blade next to the description and you'll know.

|---|---|---|---|---|

| Honda 06720-VJ9-600 (JM7013-2BB) | 21” (533mm) | Honda Buffalo rear Mulch & Catch HRU216DSU, Buffalo Bull and Classic HRU217DPU and HRU216SU | Stepped, high flute, offset bolt hole | 150mm x 50mm, 16mm hole |

| Masport 529578 (JM7032-2BB) | 18” (457mm) | Rear catcher models including President Series 642B, 6401 and 635, Craftsman Series 640X, 435 and Whirlwind 435 Series | Flat with high flute | 100mm x 44mm, 13mm hole |
| Masport 529594 (JM7004-2BB) | 18” (457mm) | Masport and Morrison Cushion Cut and Quickcut 300, 400, 200-4, 250-4, 600, 800 series, Morrison Missile 450ST and Torpedo 475ST, 475, 500 and 550 series, Stihl and Viking rear Turbo Cut “N” Catch MB434 and MB435 | Stepped, high flute, domed bolt hole, right hand cut | 97mm x 44.5mm, 13mm hole |

The two Honda sets are the ones people get wrong, because both are 21” and both measure 150mm long by 50mm wide with a 5/8” (16mm) hole. The flute is the difference. High flute is the Buffalo rear catcher. Low flute is the Utility side discharge.
Masport has three and they're worth reading twice. The President and Craftsman rear catchers at 18” take the 529578. The Cushion Cut and Quickcut series at the same 18” takes the 529594, which also covers a stack of Morrison models. The 19” rear models take the 783310.
And the Rover set replaces A03830/672K on the 18” (455mm) and 20” (508mm) models, flat blade with a formed flute and an offset hole.
What if none of them match?
Usually one of two things. Either the blades are fine and the bar behind them is worn, and once the bolt holes in that bar go oval the new blades will chatter about no matter how well they fit. Or it was never a swing back setup, and the mower runs a single bar blade right across the deck, which is a completely different part.
If in doubt, bring the old blade in and we'll Hardware CSI it. We'll read the number, check the hole and hold it up against ours. Too far to pop in? Give me a ring on (08) 8536 4333 or send us a message with the make and model off the mower, and we'll work it out from there.
Cheers,
