Filling and patching is all about the blade. Too narrow and a wide patch comes out wavy. Too wide and you cannot get into a crack.

This Uni-Pro set gives you four flexible carbon steel blades from 50mm up to 120mm, so you reach for the right width every time. The flex lets you press filler in and feather the edges, which means far less sanding before you paint.

They are not only for filler. The same blades spread plaster, putty, render and adhesive, and scrape back old paint or varnish. The handles are bonded on so they do not work loose in a wet bucket.
