White spirits is the go-to when oil-based paint or enamel needs thinning, or when brushes have gone stiff and need washing back to useful. It thins paint to a smooth, workable consistency and cleans equipment before residue has a chance to set.

It's a petroleum-based solvent, so store it sealed and away from heat and ignition sources, the same as any flammable liquid in the shed. Used well it gets a stiff brush back into service and smooths out paint flow with less effort on the roller.
