    Plain grey concrete looks like a job site. This is how you make it look like a finished path, slab or garden edge.

    Black iron-oxide pigment mixes straight into your cement, mortar or render, so the colour runs right through the mix instead of sitting on top where it can wear off. This 2.5kg bag is dosed at around 5 percent of your cement weight, up to 10 percent for a stronger colour, so you control how deep it goes.

    For a true black or red, mix it into grey cement. For lighter tones, an off-white cement base gives a cleaner result. The one thing that matters is consistency, measure the same dose for every batch so one slab doesn't come out darker than the last.
