Steps a drain or waste line down from 65mm to 40mm PVC, with the bottom of the pipe kept level so water and waste don't sit in a lip at the join.

That level bottom is the reason to use a level invert taper on a drain rather than a plain reducer, because a concentric one leaves a little step where water can pool and gunk can build up. It's a solvent weld fitting with a spigot end and a socket end, so it goes together with priming fluid and PVC cement. Holman make their DWV fittings to AS/NZS 1260 and they carry WaterMark certification.
