    A penetrating stain that puts Ebony colour into interior timber and brings the grain up, in a 250ml tin that's the right size for smaller pieces and for testing the colour first.

    It's the Haymes Woodcare Wood Stain, an oil based stain for inside, on furniture, doors, cupboards, panelling, trims and skirtings. Sand new timber smooth with 240 grit along the grain, brush or wipe it on, leave it 2 to 3 minutes and wipe the excess off with a clean, lint-free cloth. Add more coats 4 hours apart if you want it deeper. The colour changes with the timber underneath, so try it on an off-cut first. Stain isn't a finish on its own, so it needs a clear coat over the top, Haymes Woodcare Interior Varnish after 8 hours or Aqualac Clear after 24. Clean up with mineral turps, and spread used rags flat or soak them in water, because oily rags can catch fire on their own.
