When you need a proper clearance hole, the 7.5mm Sutton XP Bullet drills through steel and timber cleanly, without the bit grabbing or wandering off centre.

The 118-degree split point is self-centring, so there's no need for a centre punch first. It bites straight in and stays on the mark. The extreme parabolic flute clears swarf fast, which keeps the bit running cooler and cutting quicker, and means less push is needed, so a cordless drill's battery goes further.
