Bright, papery blooms that hold their colour long after most cut flowers have given up.

Statice is the go-to for anyone who dries their own flowers, the colour barely fades even months on, and it's just as good picked fresh for a vase while it's still in the garden. It flowers on tall, wiry stems and copes well with a hot, sunny position that would knock over softer annuals.

Sow into rows or clumps in well-drained soil. It's slow to get going from seed, so be patient through germination, and once it's flowering, cut back after the first flush to bring on a second round of blooms.
