Something a bit different for the summer bed. Lady's Finger okra produces ornamental seed pods that liven up sauces and soups, and it is a classic ingredient in a good vegetable curry.

Okra loves heat, so give it the sunniest, warmest spot you have and a soil that drains well. It is a striking plant in its own right, with the pods following pretty flowers. The flavour is reasonably mild, so it adds interest to a dish without taking over.
