When a lawn's gone pale or your lettuce has stalled, sulphate of ammonia gets nitrogen into the ground fast. It's around 20 to 21 percent nitrogen plus sulphur, so it's a strong feed built for a quick response.

Apply it dry or dissolved in water, and water it in well afterwards, keeping it off the foliage. It's best suited to lawns and leafy crops that need a push rather than a slow feed.

A 2.5kg bag goes a reasonable way across a lawn or a few garden beds.
