Orchids don't want their roots sitting in wet soil like everything else in the garden. This coarse pine bark mix is free-draining and open, so air gets to the roots the way orchids actually need.

It still holds enough moisture to keep plants happy between waterings, without waterlogging. Suits most Australian orchids, and it's a solid pick for cymbidiums specifically. Repot into fresh mix every couple of years as the bark breaks down.
