A main head first, then weeks of side shoots
The everyday green broccoli, with a good sized head first and then weeks of side shoots after you cut it, so a few plants keep the kitchen going.
Green Sprouting is a calabrese type, an open pollinated variety that makes medium, dark green heads. Cut the main head while the buds are still tight and the plant sends up smaller side shoots for weeks afterwards. In our part of the world it's sown from late summer into autumn, either in trays to plant out at 5 to 10cm or straight into the bed about 5mm deep, and the plants want around 50cm each in sun with good drainage. Expect to start cutting in roughly 70 to 90 days, and keep an eye out for caterpillars and aphids, because they love it as much as you will.
