A long galvanised batten screw that pulls a thick timber batten or a deck sub-frame down tight without you having to pre-drill.

The Type 17 point cuts its own start in hard and soft timber, the knurled section on the shank clears the hole so the timber is less likely to split, and the saw tooth thread drives in quicker. The bugle head beds itself into the timber so it finishes flush, and it drives with a 5mm hex bit. It's Class 3 galvanised, which suits general outdoor framing, and for anything near the coast or in treated pine that stays wet it's worth asking us about a heavier coating.
