A blunt chain turns firewood into hard work. This Archer loop comes honed sharp from the box, so it bites in on the first pull and keeps the saw cutting clean instead of chewing.

Archer builds these from nickel alloy Japanese steel with hard industrial chrome on the cutters, which holds an edge longer than cheaper chain. Every cutter, drive link and bumper is shot peened for strength, so it stands up to real work. The semi chisel cutters have a rounded corner, so they cope better with dirty, dry or seasoned timber and stay sharp longer than a full chisel chain. They are also lower kickback and more forgiving, which suits general property and firewood cutting.

One thing to get right before you buy. A chain only fits if the pitch, the gauge and the drive link count all match your saw and bar. This loop is 3/8 inch low profile pitch, .050 inch gauge, 56 drive links, which suits many smaller, lower powered saws. The drive link count is what pins the exact fit, so check yours.
