    The colour on a nylon wall plug tells you its diameter and screw range before you have even measured a thing.

    This one is green, 35mm long. Drill a hole to match, push the plug in flush, then drive the screw. As it goes in, the nylon squeezes out and locks against the sides of the hole for a firm hold in brick, block, concrete or stone. At 35mm it gives the screw enough bite for frames, battens, brackets and shelving, and being nylon it will never rust away inside the wall.

    Match the plug length to what you are fixing and the screw going through it. Too short and you lose grip, too long and you are drilling deeper than the job needs.
