Where to buy Steel Blue work boots in Strathalbyn

Steel Blue work boots, and where they are in Strathalbyn

If you are standing on a hard surface for 9 hours a day then the boot is not really footwear, it is equipment, and the difference between a boot that suits your foot and one that does not turns up in your knees and your lower back long before it turns up in the boot itself. So it is worth trying a few on rather than buying a size off a screen, and that is most of the reason to get them locally.

What we have on the rack

The Steel Blue line we carry is the Argyle, which is a zip side with a lace up over the top, and it comes in the black and in the wheat. Both run through a decent spread of sizes including some half sizes, and rather than quote you a size range that will be wrong by next week, ring us on (08) 8536 4333 and we will tell you what is actually on the shelf in your size.

Check the toe before you assume it

This is the bit worth slowing down on, because a safety toe cap and a bump cap are not the same thing and the words get used loosely by nearly everybody. If your site requires a rated safety toe, check the box and check the standard printed on the boot itself, and ask us if it is not obvious, because the person who finds out the difference the hard way is always the person who assumed. The boot tells you what it is. The blog post is not the place to take it on trust.

Zip, elastic side or plain lace up

Most of the argument about work boots comes down to how you get into them and how often you have to. A zip side with laces gives you the lace up fit but you are not sitting there undoing them every time you go in and out of the house. An elastic side is faster again and there is nothing to come undone, which matters if you are up and down a ladder, and it is the one most people around here end up in. A plain lace up holds the foot the best if the fit is a bit particular, and you pay for that in the time it takes to get them off at the end of the day.

None of that is a ranking. It is a question about your day, and the honest answer is different for somebody on a roof and somebody in a workshop.

Getting the fit right

  • Try them on late in the day. Feet swell, and a boot fitted at 8 in the morning can be tight by 4.
  • Wear the socks you actually work in, not the thin ones you happened to have on.
  • Stand up and walk. A boot that feels fine sitting down can rub once your weight is through it.
  • Check the heel. If it lifts while you walk, the boot is too big, whatever the number on the box says.
  • Give them a break in period rather than a full shift on day one, and keep the old pair until you are sure.

Making them last

A work boot dies at the laces, at the sole bond and at the crease across the toe, so a bit of leather care on the uppers and letting them dry properly between wet days buys you months. Never dry them next to a heater, because the leather goes hard and cracks along that crease and then you are buying boots again in winter, which is when everybody buys boots and nobody wants to.

Shop related products

The rest of the size run is in footwear, and there is more on the rack than goes online. Did you know we also stock Redback safety and non safety elastic sided boots, Oliver zip up safety boots, the Hobart elastic sided safety boot and gumboots in a range of sizes. Give us a ring on (08) 8536 4333 to check what is on the shelf before you drive in.

We are at Building 2, 34-52 Milnes Rd, Strathalbyn, and we are open 7 days.

I am not the one wearing steel caps all day, so I take my boot advice from the ones who come back for a second pair, and that is honestly the most useful review there is.
