Colorbond Fencing for Your New Home in South Australia

You have the keys, the boxes are still stacked in the hallway, and somewhere on the list underneath paint colours and a new letterbox there is a line that says fence. It usually gets put off, partly because it is not the fun part, and partly because nobody explains what you are actually buying, so it feels like a bigger decision than it is.

So here is the plain version of it.

What a Colorbond fence is made of

It is a kit of parts rather than one product, which is the bit that confuses people standing in front of a display. There are the panels themselves, the rails that carry them, the posts that hold the rails, and the brackets and fixings that tie the lot together. Post caps go on top. Cement goes in the ground around the posts.

Once you know it is those five things, pricing a fence stops being mysterious. It is a length, a height, a colour, and a count of posts.

Why people keep choosing it

  • It does not rot. That is the honest headline, and it is the reason it beats timber for most people who do not want to be repainting a fence in ten years.
  • The upkeep is a hose. Steel with a baked finish on it does not want oiling, staining or sealing, and that is the cost most people forget to count when they compare it against timber on price alone.
  • It handles our weather. Hot dry summers and the gales we cop off the Fleurieu are exactly what the profile is designed around.
  • The colour range is genuinely wide, so you can pick something that disappears into the background or something that reads as a deliberate choice.

I will be straight about the other side of it. Steel dents if a trailer backs into it, and the panels are a fixed profile, so if what you want is a fence with a bit of character to it then timber or a mix of the two is worth a look. Either is a perfectly reasonable answer.

Price it yourself before you ring anyone

We built a takeoff tool called Splinter so you can put in the run of your boundary and get a materials list back without having to book anything or talk to a person first. Most people want a number before they want a conversation, and that is a completely fair way to go about it.

What we do and what we do not

We supply the materials and we get them to you. Panels, rails, posts, caps, brackets, fixings, and the cement for the post holes, all on the same drop so you are not waiting on a second delivery to start. Local delivery is $5 around Strathalbyn and $10 across the regional run, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We do not install it. If you want it built for you that is a job for a fencer, and there are people who do it well. What we can do is make sure the list is right before it leaves, because the thing that stops a weekend fence build dead is being three brackets short at 4pm on a Saturday.

Elroy is the one to ask on this. He has worked out more fence lists than I have, and he will tell you straight if the plan needs changing.

Shop related products

Did you know we also carry the fence rails, posts, rail plates and post caps in the shop rather than on the website, because they are cut and counted to the job. Give us a ring on (08) 8536 4333 to check what is on the shelf. Touch up enamel in the Colorbond shades is in store only as well, since aerosols cannot be posted.

Where to go next

A fence is one of those things you only think about twice, once when you put it in and once when it fails, so it is worth getting the materials right the first time.

Cheers,
Candeece

Ask me in the shop, I am usually there, and Elroy is better at fences than I am anyway.
